Provenance

“In early 2019 I created a small version of this image while on residency in Ballinskelligs, Co. Kerry. It was singular among the twenty odd pieces which I painted then. My euphoria was tempered by the painting’s smallness. I knew then that I needed to go large (or go home).

Fast-forward six months to Avoca Studio Gallery where I prepared a canvas 71/2 times the size of the original with a ‘cosmic-deep-space’ style ground. Then, using the imagery and palette from the original as my reference, I went to work. The over-dimensional ‘Skellig Phosphorescence’ easily surpassed my highest hopes. “ – Rod Coyne.
