“I believe I connect on a spiritual & physical level with my forefathers when I paint their monuments. When I do that, I like to think that I can tap into their connection to nature and their wild environment also. This sensation is only deepened while painting atop a lonely mountain ridge, surrounded by a few shaggy sheep, enjoying a 360 degree view of the ancient Kerry coastline. So I’ve applied a red filter to what I’m seeing in an attempt to make the familiar, unfamiliar, and make the known-world, other-worldly.” – Rod Coyne.
