Cut off by the daily tide, resting on a tiny land-spit, is McCarty’s Castle. Immediately it calls to my inner child. When kids see a mini version of anything, they understand it as especially made form them. Somewhere there’s a mammy one and a daddy one, and this is the kid’s one. It’s a playground. This playful emotion overrides what adult Rod suspects, that the castle was once the last place of refuge during a time of life and death. Balancing my emotional ying & yang I take up my brushes and go to work.” – Rod Coyne.
