Provenance

“There’s a place where the waves crash, the tide heaves and the weather rolls in off the Atlantic Ocean. It’s called Ballinskelligs Bay in Co. Kerry. Cut off by the daily tide, resting on a tiny land-spit, is McCarty’s Castle. Immediately it calls to my inner child. When kids see a mini version of anything, they understand it as especially made form them. Somewhere there’s a mammy one and a daddy one, and this is the kid’s one. It’s a playground. This playful emotion overrides what adult Rod suspects, that the castle was once the last place of refuge during a time of life and death. Balancing my emotional ying & yang I take up my brushes and go to work.” – Rod Coyne.

Created on the shoreline, Rod Coyne’s painting “McCarty’s Castle” is a moody vision of Ireland’s antique, foggy history. Coyne’s painting would make the perfect addition to any home or office for art collectors and maritime fans alike. It is signed on the front and carries a date and inscription by the artist on the reverse.
