Provenance
“The reasons why I paint his view are varied. The Skelligs on the horizon make a monumental spectacle. There’s something impossible about their presence. So I am moved to record them and prove their existence to myself. I set my easel up at sea level to make the islands stand proud above the horizon, and silhouetted triumphantly against the Atlantic sky. For hours I paint and peer out to sea, suspecting I am not the first to be hypnotized by these unapologetic ocean rocks. Surely generations of mankind have proceeded my slack-jawed gawping. Until eventually, in the 5th century, when early Christian monks ventured out there to make their home one step closer to God.” – Rod Coyne.
Rod’s ‘Skelligs, Ocean Cathedral’ would make the perfect addition to any home or office for art collectors and seascape fans alike. It is signed on the front and carries a date and inscription by the artist on the reverse.
